CLUB MEET

Our main training session happens on every Wednesday evening throughout the year.  We run from “The Crossbar” venue in Chellaston Park on Snelsmore Lane, arriving at around 6.20pm ready to start running at 6:30pm.  There is plenty of space to park with a couple of overflow areas in case the sports centre is busy.

The club caters for all abilities and runs in groups of varying speeds and distances to suit everyone’s needs.  We normally aim to have a 4 mile group which is of a slower pace, and two 10k groups for more advanced runners, one running at a slow to medium pace, and the other a faster pace.  All groups are supervised with experienced runners at the front and back to ensure no-one gets left behind and everyone is safe.

If those distances sounds too daunting though, don’t worry, as we can easily cater for a weekly 5k run, or even less if you’re a complete beginner.  On this note, at the start of the year we aim to provide a 9-week “Couch-to-5k” session, to encourage everyone to get going again in those dark winter evenings when you are feeling guilty about over-indulging over the festive period!

Routes over the winter stick to well-lit pavement routes, but hi-viz and perhaps a headtorch is always sensible still.  Over the summer months the routes can be more varied and can venture a little more away from the roadside into the more scenic areas of southern Derby, such as along the canal, or around some of the surrounding countryside.

All newcomers, particularly those who are less experienced are advised to contact us by email firstly before turning up for their first weekly training run.  The reason we ask this is so that we can ascertain your running abilities and ensure you are looked after and we can put you with someone or a group that can accompany you.  If you don’t have time to contact us before coming along, that’s also fine, as we never turn anyone away, but just please make yourself known to one of our team.

We try to make our club runs as sociable and inclusive as possible, and as we are such a friendly bunch, you’ll find that those miles will just fly by!  Following our weekly run, we like to continue the fun with a drink at the Crossbar and perhaps a snack too - after the first Wednesday run of each month the club lays on a few pizzas for you to enjoy whilst catching up with your club mates.
