Week 11
Phew, what a difference a week makes, last week we were all worried about how icy parkrun could be with the subzero temperatures following the snow earlier in the week. It was defiantly feeling a little warmer this week, albeit we did have a little drizzle. But with spring just around the corner the park and its wildlife is starting to come back to life and bloom, just like this week’s very green volunteer roster. This week’s roster was full to bursting as Sinfin Run Club marked their third parkrun takeover. Many of the club’s runners are regular parkrun runners and volunteers; with a few taking the opportunity to putting the pink volunteer vest on for the first time or trying a new role, well done and thank you!
This week 245 sprinted, ran, skipped and walked their way around Alvaston parkrun. Runners came to Alvaston from far and wide with notable tourists travelling from Ludlow, Cardiff and Newcastle, thanks for coming! There were 44 first timer visitors and 30 new PBs were set, well done all! This week also marked Love to Jog’s Couch to 5K graduation, well done to all of them, hope to see you back next week.
By 8:30 the bulk of our volunteers donned the pink vests and were making sure everything was prepared before venturing out across the park and down the canal path to their marshalling points.
As there were ample volunteers this morning there were a handful who put on the blue pace maker bibs. They were pacing 22, 25, 28, 30, 32 and 35 min. With a quick glance across the results there were a handful of PBs around each of those times so it looks like they helped.
Accompanying some of the volunteers were their children, special thanks to them who enjoyed their time shouting, cheering and high-fiving the runners. There were also a number of dogs around today’s parkrun. We had a fantastic trio tail-walking, all three wagging their tails all the way around the course and another canine friend accompanying our five bar code scanners.
You might have noticed flyers dotted around the parkrun advertising the Sinfin 5, our new 5 mile race that is taking place on the 7th May. More information about this race and the club can be found on our website https://www.sinfinrc.co.uk/sinfin5
Although this week was the third time the club has had a takeover, we regularly see club members volunteer at parkrun week after week. It’s important to remember that parkrun cannot operate without the generous help of volunteers, it’s a great way to give back to the parkrun community and I encourage anyone to give it a go!
