Mountain Rescue Presentation 2023
Following on from our successful Sinfin 5 Race we presented the third, and final, supporter payments to The Mountain Rescue. https://www.mountain.rescue.org.uk/
Mountain Rescue from its humble beginnings of makeshift stretchers and swiftly-gathered, ad-hoc search and rescue parties, mountain rescue has certainly grown up.
Now a world-class, professional service it remains entirely voluntary at the point of delivery, trained to operate in the harshest of environments, both on and off the mountains. There are 47 volunteer mountain rescue teams and eight regional bodies in England and Wales, across eight geographical areas. These areas comprise Lake District, Mid Pennine, North East, Peak District, Peninsula, Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and South Wales.
There are also two associate teams, based in south west England. The local Peak District region comprises the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO) and its seven member teams, covering Derbyshire, areas of Yorkshire and the surrounding counties and Greater Manchester: Buxton, Derby, Edale, Glossop, Kinder, Oldham and Woodhead.
On Wednesday evening Paul and Martin visited us from the Derby Team to thank us for the donation. Paul explained that donations are vital to help them continue to provide their services and ensure they have the equipment needed. Annual costs are approximately £40,000 just for the Derby team.
We have made previous donations to The Mountain Rescue and our aim is to continue to do so as we feel they are a very deserving charity.
