WHO ARE WE?
THE EARLY DAYS
Sinfin Running Club was started in 1984 with the help of the Sinfin Community Council and met every Wednesday at Sinfin Moor Social Club. The club grew in membership and stature and soon started to pick up individual and team prizes in many races, both at senior and junior level. One of the clubs biggest achievements was when they won the national final of the ‘Today’s Runner’ cross country league. The club had some very good runners, Pete Yeomans and Tim Bishop being just two of them. These two runners won many races including the Worksop Half Marathon and Bury 20.
TODAY
More recently, the club has found an excellent new base at The Crossbar, Chellaston Park which enables members to have a well earned pint at the end of the training run (plus pizzas, snacks and/or cakes!)
The club has a very strong social focus and regularly holds social events and nights out. Club members also compete in the UK and abroad. This has included club trips to the Amsterdam Marathon / Half-Marathon, the London Marathon, the National Cross-Country Championships and a range of other road and cross country races. The club is looking to hold a brand new race in 2023 to replace the previously very popular Sinfin Classic 10k annual race.
We have some very good runners and have experienced significant recent success such as winning the 2008 Ladies’ Vets Derbyshire County Athletics Association Pride Park Relays. Individual successes have included wins by Chris Morrison in the over 50s category at the Keyworth Turkey Trot in December 2008. In June 2008, it was a clean sweep for the club as Matt Radbourne and Helen Ripley won the Mens and Vet Ladies categories in the Rolls Royce 10 mile race.
